Last night was the second night of NBA All-Star Weekend as the usual three events for Saturday (slam dunk contest, three-point contest, skills challenge) were held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Celtics guard Jayson Tatum participated in his first ever All-Star Weekend event, taking part in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge for the first of the three events on the evening. Tatum beat the Grizzlies' Mike Conley and the Nuggets' Nikola Jokic in the first two rounds before taking down the Hawks' Trae Young in the final round. Tatum clinched the victory as he hit the deciding three-point shot from half-court:
What a shot. How it didn't make contact with Young's is a mystery. Sometimes things just fall into place. Like Tatum's shot, into the net.
“He (Young) was getting close, about to shoot it,” Tatum said per The Boston Herald. “If I’m going to lose, I’d better get up a shot attempt. Let me throw this up real quick. I thought I’d at least knock his ball out of the way." Tatum, who turns 21 two weeks from today, is the first Celtic to win the skills challenge.
